GENERAL QUESTIONS

If you’re AC indoor fan isn’t working, first check to make sure a breaker hasn’t been tripped. If all is OK, check your air filter. If it’s blocked, then you may be able to fix it yourself. If there’s ice on the evaporator coil and refrigerant lines, allow the ice to melt, then check again to see if the fan is working.

When your air conditioner suddenly stops working, it can be something as simple as a tripped circuit breaker or blown fuse. It is important to note that many common problems with air conditioners can be caused by lack of maintenance.

First, go inside and turn off the AC. Then, go check the circuit breaker. The switch you’re looking for should say something like “HVAC,” “F.A.U,” “A/C”. If the switch is tripped, try to reset it. Then go inside and try the AC again.

The major causes of compressor failure, in order of importance, include wrong capacitors, bad contactors, freon leaks, dirty evaporators, poor airflow, dirty filters, dirty condensers, low superheat, and current overload, especially when it’s scorching outside.
